Brown blasts Black Cats
Hull City manager Phil Brown insists he will have no qualms about beating boyhood club Sunderland in their crucial relegation clash on Saturday.
The Black Cats are currently two points above the relegation zone and have not won a Premier League match since 7th February.
Brown admits that his Hull side expected to be fighting for survival at the end of the season but believes Sunderland should not be battling relegation given the money they have spent on transfers.
"We always knew that this stage of the season was going to be a tough ask and we were under no illusions that it wouldn't be a scrap by the end," said Brown.
Spending
"Sunderland are in a predicament that they won't have been expecting having spent the money that they did.
"With the change in manager, Ricky (Sbragia) came in as caretaker and had a very good spell. But it hasn't kicked on from there.
"Their plight is as rocky as anyone's. Would I lose any sleep about beating Sunderland because I watched them as a lad? None at all.
"I support Hull City now because Hull City support me. Our chairman Paul Duffen pays my wages and that's where my allegiances lie."
The 49-year-old manager has turned to veteran Premier League bosses Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce for advice on how to handle the all-important final games of the season.
Mentors
Although Ferguson's battles have been fought at the top of the table rather than the bottom, Brown insists that he can still "learn a lot" from the Manchester United manager.
"You look to your mentors at times like this. People like Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce," he added.
"Alex has faced a lot of pressure down the years. Pressure of a different kind, granted, but pressure nonetheless. Look at Manchester United going to Porto and winning this week.
"It's about character and bottle. How you can handle it. You can learn a lot from people who have been there and done it before and I'm no different."
