Brown bemoans penalty decision

Hull City manager Phil Brown felt his side were denied a 'stonewall' penalty in their 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Birmingham City. The Blues took all three points from their trip to the KC Stadium when Garry O'Connor rose unmarked at the near post to head home Keith Fahey's corner in the 75th minute. But the Tigers felt they should have had a penalty soon after when Stephen Hunt went down under Scott Dann's challenge in the area. Referee Phil Dowd waved play on but replays showed that Dann had taken player, rather than ball, leaving Brown less than impressed. Key momentsHe said: "I'm not here to complain. I'm here to talk about the result. Birmingham put in a shift and a performance which frustrated the home opposition. "They gained confidence because we were giving the ball away cheaply. (Boaz) Myhill was undoubtedly the busier of the two goalkeepers so I suppose Alex (McLeish) will be saying they deserved it. "But there were a couple of key moments after the goal when we hit the crossbar and the penalty. "I'm going to have another look at it tonight. I don't want to sound like sour grapes, but it looked like a stonewall certainty to me. But I'm bound to say that after I've lost 1-0." Brown was also less than impressed with his side's defending, particularly when O'Connor was allowed to head home the winner unchallenged. ConcernHe added: "The mentality of players defending set pieces is a concern. That comes down to individuals. It has cost us three points against Wolves and it has cost us a point or three against Birmingham. "For somebody to walk into our six-yard box, literally walk into it, and get a free header needs to be addressed. "Confidence levels now are low and they need picking up and it's now an important game against Everton on Wednesday."
