Boyce makes case for the defence

Emmerson Boyce believes Wigan's defensive record has played a huge part in helping the club become a top-half Premier League side. The Latics' 1-0 victory over Hull last weekend gave them their 11th clean sheet of the season, and Boyce reckons this is helping confidence grow. "We're confident at the back and the manager has said he wants to build the team upon strong foundations in the defence," he told the club's official website."We know that if we're struggling to score goals we're confident that we can keep a clean sheet, and at least come away with a point. If we do get a goal we know we can hold a lead too."Boyce is also happy that the club is fulfilling its potential and showing everyone what they are capable of. "We're enjoying our football and playing some good stuff, and you can see that by where we are in the table. We want to finish as high as we can. In Wigan's first Premier League season the club finished 10th, so we want to better that and get as close as we can to the teams above us," Boyce added.
