Boateng - We will survive

George Boateng is confident Hull City will beat the drop if they reproduce performances like the one at Sunderland last Saturday, despite losing 1-0. The Tigers were much improved from the embarrassing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough a week earlier, which caused alarm bells to ring. The loss at The Riverside meant that the club slipped to within four points of the relegation zone and although that gap has been reduced to three points after the weekend's results Boateng believes the club are good enough to survive. The defeat against Boro would have hurt the Dutchman more than most after spending almost six years on Teesside but he is sure his current team can finish above his former employers. "They (other teams) may have more technical players who they hope will turn the screw," the midfielder told the club's official website. "But with five games to go and when you are three points away from relegation that is out of the window. "You need a performance like Saturday and Sunderland know it was nail-biting stuff and if the clock had ticked a few minutes longer we might have got the goal. "What pleased me is that what I saw on Saturday reminds me of earlier in the season. "That is how we were playing. Everyone was fighting for the cause and that was pleasing. "It was a shame it was an offside goal (Djibril Cisse's winner) because we played to that all week in training on getting out and he came from an offside position. "But you have to ride your luck and the luck went against us. That's what happens."
