Bent edges closer to Black Cats

Sunderland are in advanced discussions with Darren Bent, Sky Sports News understands, but Hull City and Aston Villa are reported to have joined the race for the Tottenham striker.[LNB] The 25-year-old looks set to leave White Hart Lane following Peter Crouch's arrival from Portsmouth and he has not travelled with the club for their pre-season trip to Beijing.[LNB]Bent was manager Harry Redknapp's top scorer last season but was also out of favour at times and behind Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.[LNB]Redknapp has previously announced that Sunderland, who missed out on Crouch, were leading the pursuit of the England forward and it is reported that a deal is close to be being agreed.[LNB]However, Hull and Villa have now also emerged as candidates to sign £14million-rated Bent as both clubs look to increase their attacking options.[LNB]
