Nick Barmby is in line to become the new manager of Hull City after Warren Joyce opted to stay with Manchester United.

The 37-year-old former England midfielder has been given the chance as caretaker boss of Hull, who travel to Derby County on Saturday, after Nigel Pearson left to take over at Leicester City.

Barmby, who won 23 England caps, has been coaching Hull’s reserves and was initially ready to become assistant to Joyce.

However, the 46-year-old former Hull player-manager declined the opportunity and has decided to carry on as Manchester United’s reserves coach instead.
