It was a good few years ago since Hull City had a regular player manager in the form of Brian Horton. Brian was inspirational on the field as well as off it back in 1984 leading city to promotion but was ultimately sacked by then chairman, Don Robinson.
Now, Nick Barmby gets his chance to emulate Hortons first season in charge. The forward thinking chairman Adam Pearson has earmarked Barmby for a long term managerial position at Hull City which must be a good move as any new outside manager would have a clearout of backroom staff and playing staff which in my opinion would plunge city into yet more instability, the likes of which we saw when city were relegated from the Premiership.
It's a new dawn for Hull City. The playing staff are a crop of good young hopefuls who are more than holding their own at a very difficult level of football and Nick Barmby is Hull City through and through as well as holding a very prestigious pedigree at senior level and international level football for many years which will hold him in good stead for the managerial role.
The tigers take on Derby this afternoon and Nick's first game in charge will be a tough test but these sorts of occasions tend to bring out certain fight and determination amongst teams and I would bet that City will dominate the game and come away with all 3 points.
