Town close to Brandon deal

Huddersfield Town boss Peter Jackson is confident of persuading Chris Brandon to sign a one-year extension to his contract.

The 29-year-old was one of the Terriers' most impressive performers last term following his arrival from Chesterfield and Jackson is keen for the midfielder to commit to the club until 2007.

He told the Daily Examiner: "I'm reasonably optimistic that we'll reach agreement having had talks with Chris' agent.

"Chris is still away on holiday at the moment, so I don't expect to know for maybe a couple of weeks, but hopefully things will work out.

"He has been a massive hit with the fans here and has grasped the chance we gave him 12 months ago.

"While he's still got another year to run on his present contract with the club, I'm confident Chris can build on an exceptional first season with us and help us achieve the goals we've set."

Brandon scored six times in 44 league outings for Huddersfield as they narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season.
