Terriers announce big loss
16 Nov 2009 - 13:57:21
Huddersfield Town have announced that they have sunk to more than £3million into the red.
Despite this, chairman Dean Hoyle has emphasised that the Terriers do not have to offload their key players to soften the financial blow.
Although the official figures will not be released until next month, chief executive Nigel Clibbens has admitted: "The financial results for the centenary season to May, 2009 will show underlying trading losses at HTAFC of well in excess of £3million.
"Dean (Hoyle) paid over £300,000 in transfer fees for the likes of Gary Roberts, Ian Craney and Tom Denton.
"The club's wage bill immediately increased by more than double as salaries for new players rocketed, but, more importantly, HTAFC became locked into that cost for the next two years as well."
Life-long Town fan and self-made millionaire Hoyle, said: "I have said this before, but I think it's worth reiterating - we do not have to sell our key assets.
"We have a young team consisting of many summer arrivals and I think we are starting to see everyone gel together now, so we want to keep the team together and build for the future - not sell our best players."
