Ternent happy with keepers
11 Jul 2008 - 13:39:45
Huddersfield Town manager Stan Ternent is not looking to add another goalkeeper to his ranks after being impressed by the young shot-stoppers already on the books at the Galpharm Stadium.
Experienced keeper Matt Glennon will once again be the number one at the League One club this season, but England youth internationals Simon Eastwood and Alex Smithies are both knocking on the door of the first team.
The two teenagers have both come through the ranks at the West Yorkshire club.
"What is certain is that we have two excellent prospects on the books, which is a fortunate position to be in," Ternent told the Huddersfield Examiner.
"But Simon has never played in the first team while Alex has just a game and a half under his belt, so in that sense they are unproven.
"It's fair to say that you don't know how they will react until they are thrown into a first-team situation.
"I rate Matt Glennon very highly and I'm more than happy to have him as my senior goalkeeper.
"I understand he's played the bulk of the matches since he's been at the club, but obviously there's always a chance of injury or suspension.
"In that case you have to have someone ready to step in, and we'll be assessing whether Simon and Alex are ready for that during pre-season."
