Skarz wins high praise

Huddersfield Town manager Peter Jackson was quick to praise debutant Joe Skarz who impressed in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Scunthorpe United.

The 17-year-old has been a regular in the reserves but was thrust in to the Terriers first team following the side's dreadful display against Brighton in the previous match.

"Joe has only just gone 17 and he's come up against one of the best wide right players in the League in Cleveland Taylor," Jackson told Town's official website.

"However, I know now that Joe can look back on his debut and feel he did really well. He obviously tired towards the end but, again, he's only just 17.

"I spoke to the Academy manager at the start of the season and we thought that Joe might be ready for first-team action after Christmas, but he's come into the side a bit earlier.

"I tried to keep things low-key for Joe. I said he'd be in the squad but Joe knew he'd be starting on Thursday. He's been excellent in the reserves so far this season, but it's a massive step-up from that to play in an occasion such as this at the Galpharm and I can't praise him highly enough."
