Ritchie regrets loan snubs

Huddersfield Town boss Andy Ritchie has revealed that he has missed out on a number of loan targets, as he attempts to bolster his squad with a new striker.

Ritchie has made approaches for three Championship forwards, but has been unable to convince any of his targets to head the Galpharm Stadium.

He told the club's official website: "I've made approaches for a couple of other strikers this week - Craig Beattie of West Bromwich Albion and Shefki Kuqi of Crystal Palace.

"However, the pattern on both of those moves followed that of our approach for Izale McLeod from Charlton Athletic.

"The lure of Championship football is proving to be too much for those players and as soon as we register our interest, at least two Championship clubs make a move for them.

"I think that the fact we are trying to compete with Championship clubs for players is proof that we are aiming for loan targets who possess real quality."

Beattie has now joined up with Preston North End, while McLeod linked up with Colchester United, but both players have suffered injury setbacks upon joining their new clubs.
