McDermott calls for unity

Assistant boss Terry McDermott called for Huddersfield to stick together as a club following controversial match programme remarks by chairman Dean Hoyle prior to the 1-0 home defeat against Exeter.Hoyle effectively accused the team of cowardice before the game, which Exeter won thanks to Richard Duffy's unmarked header midway through the first half.Hoyle said: "Do our players have the fight and bottle to face up to a physical and wound-up opposing team? Does our team have the real desire to get out of this league? This week I have posed these questions to manager Lee Clark."Clark refused to speak to the media after this 1-0 defeat, claiming he did not want to risk a possible fine for giving his thoughts about the performance.McDermott spoke instead and said: "Lee is a passionate man and cares about this club. He's hurt by this defeat and didn't want to say anything that might get him into trouble."On the chairman's notes, McDermott added: "I haven't read the article fully because I didn't bring my reading glasses. But it's clear the chairman cares and that's his prerogative."
