    Jacko's praise for Abbott

    15 Aug 2006 - 11:02:03

Striker Pawel Abbott has been praised for the way he has forced his way back into Huddersfield boss Peter Jackson's first-team plans this season.

The Polish hitman looked set for a summer move to League Two side MK Dons and was then left on the substitutes' bench for the opening game of the season against Gillingham.

However an injury to veteran striker Andy Booth handed Abbott a chance for a recall and he has not disappointed with two goals in as many games in home victories against Rotherham and Bristol City.

Jackson told the club's official website: "Pawel Abbott's attitude has been excellent since pre-season, his work-rate has been excellent and I'm delighted that Pav has got off the mark."

Abbott revealed that the possibility of having to ply his trade at a lower level helped spark him back into form following a disappointing end to last term.

He told the Huddersfield Examiner: "You want to play at as high a level as possible, but then you could go to a club a division below and you wonder what's gone wrong.

"I'd already vowed to myself to work hard during pre-season, but realising the boss would have let me go made me all the more determined to succeed here.

"Last season didn't go as I had planned, but it's behind me now, and I'm determined to make amends."
