Huddersfield have offered Macclesfield striker John Rooney the opportunity to earn a contract at the Galpharm Stadium. Rooney is out of contract at Macc but has been offered terms to stay with the League Two club, who would be entitled to compensation if he leaves. The 19-year-old trained with Derby and Preston last season and has now linked up for pre-season training with the Terriers. He featured in the friendly win over AFC Emley on Friday and was joined in the team by Australian midfielder Calum Hare. Manager Lee Clark told the Huddersfield Examiner: "We are having a look at both of them. They will play two or three pre-season games and be given a good opportunity to earn a contract."
