New Huddersfield manager Chris Powell is keen to "overachieve" in the Sky Bet Championship this season and banish any early fears of a relegation struggle.
The 44-year-old was announced as Mark Robins' replacement on Wednesday afternoon following a productive meeting with Terriers chairman Dean Hoyle.
Powell, who has signed a rolling contract, told a media conference: "I'm extremely happy. When I had my first interview and met the chairman and the chief executive, I was very impressed with their vision.
"I'm honoured to be the man chosen to lead Huddersfield forward.
"It was right to bring it to this point - an international break where players can recharge and the chosen applicant would have enough time with the team leading up to the next Championship game."
The Terriers are currently fourth from bottom in the Championship having won just one of their first five matches, but Powell is not concerned and will look to add players to his squad in the coming weeks.
He added: "There's a good squad here already with lots of experience, potential and some good young players.
"The loan window opens soon so hopefully there will be a chance to move a few players - some hopefully coming in and maybe some who need to go and play some football and get some experience.
"I'm sure we'll have a really competitive squad, then come January if we're able to enquire about players and bring players in permanently then we'll do that."
Powell has high hopes that he can kick-start Huddersfield's season and get the Yorkshire club moving up the table.
"Looking at the side, we just want to be a competitive side in the Championship," he said. "It's been a tough two seasons but we've stayed in the Championship.
"I think we just want to overachieve as such and move forward as a club that can really be a good competitive side.
"I'm not going to make any promises. All I can say is that my team, whatever game they're playing in, they will compete. They will be a team full of character, honesty and play their football.
"They've got to make themselves, each other and the town proud."
Powell's last job was at Charlton who he led to the League One title in 2012 but he was axed in March this year when the Addicks were bottom of the Championship.
He has brought in former Huddersfield player Alex Dyer as his assistant alongside Steve Thompson.
Mark Lillis, who had been in caretaker charge following Robins' departure on August 10, is expected to revert to his position as head of Huddersfield's academy.
