Huddersfield striker Lee Novak has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2013. The popular hitman, 21, has added an extra year to his original deal following an outstanding first season with the Terriers. Novak arrived from Blue Square North outfit Gateshead for an undisclosed fee in the January 2009 transfer window, with the deal stipulating that Novak returned to the Tynesiders on loan for the remainder of the campaign. Last season he netted an impressive 14 goals in 31 starts for Lee Clark's side, with a further 14 appearances as a substitute. Town boss Clark said: "Lee's contract extension is massive for the club and just rewards for him for the excellent work he put in last season. "Obviously we brought Lee in from non-league football and it might have been seen as a gamble as we didn't know how he would adapt, but he probably did better than he could have hoped for; to play so many games in his first season at this level was brilliant and every time he played he deserved his place in the team. "He's become a crowd favourite because of his work ethic and I think the club have shown that if players come in and do the business they will be rewarded in terms of extensions to their contract."
