Clarke nears comeback

Huddersfield defender Nathan Clarke has targeted a return to first-team action in the home Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Peterborough next month. Clarke, 26, has yet to appear this season after sustaining a knee injury during the close season, but came through unscathed following a 70-minute run out with the reserves and is aiming to be included in manager Lee Clark's squad for the second-round clash with Posh on October 5. Town manager Clark said: "We were very happy to see Nathan back in action. I never like to see any of my players out with long-term injuries, certainly not fantastic lads who are fantastic professionals. "It was good to see the spring in Nathan's step before the game. The time he enjoyed on the pitch will have done him no harm at all. "My staff have said that fitness wise he looked fine, including his knee. We now have to gradually keep him progressing and we have other games coming up in the not too distant future that will be more testing for him. "There is a possibility that I might name him in the 16 for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, but that's still something I'm considering at this moment in time."
