Netherlands coach Marco van Basten has admitted that Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will miss his side's opening game against Italy on Monday.
Van Persie, who has endured an injury-ravaged campaign with the Gunners, has been struggling with a thigh problem.
Van Basten admitted: "Robin's training normally with the squad. His condition is improving from day to day, but it is logical that there is still some improvement to come.
"The Italy match will be too early for him."
Van Persie has scored seven times in 24 appearances for the Netherlands national side.
