Manchester United and Holland striker Ruud van Nistelrooy thinks he will still be at Old trafford next term.

The 29-year-old star was tipped to leave United after reports of a bust-up with boss Sir Alex Ferguson and a much-publicised exchange of words with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Van Nistelrooy was a regular on the substitute's bench in the second half of the 2005-06 campaign and was left out of the starting line-up for the Carling Cup Final success against Wigan Athletic in February.

However, he told The Sun: "I don't know what has gone wrong.

"I have two years left on my contract and, unless anybody tells me differently, I will return to Manchester for pre-season training."

Meanwhile, reports suggest Holland coach Marco van Basten will drop van Nistelrooy to the substitute's bench for Sunday's second round clash with Portugal.

Van Basten was upset with van Nistelrooy's contribution in the goalless draw with Argentina on Wednesday with Ryan Babel coming on to replace him in the second half.
