Hinckley United drew 0 - 0 with Workington, though put in a much better performance than in recent weeks. A strange formation was on show from the start as Hinckley played 3 attackers and sought to dictate the play from the whistle.
For the first time in weeks Hinckley managed to keep the ball on the deck and play the flanks. Though the first half was an even contest with not many chances, the second half was Hinckley on the front foot start to finish.
Richard Lavery hit the bar with a looping header after only 4 minutes of the restart, and then Andy Brown was brought down right on the edge of the area when through on goal. The free kick was blasted into the wall by Neil Cartwright and the offending Workington player did not even receive a yellow card. Hinckley worked the left hand side really well and Jamie Lenton put in a number of low crosses which were blocked or scrambled clear by the Workington rearguard as they were forced to defend in numbers.
On the opposite flank Neil Cartwright and Laurent Cluzel were linking well together and fed in Andy Brown on a number of occasion when one shot was into the side netting, and another couple straight at the keeper. Workingtons only threat came from the pacey substitute Wayne Gordon, who on two occasions managed to sprint clear of the Hinckley defence, but young keeper Danny Haystead was on hand to make two excellent saves.
In the last 10 minutes Hinckley laid seige to the Workington goal with Marc McGregor unable to connect properly with a low cross and Owen Storey forcing an excellent save from Adam Collins after he had gone round two Workington defenders. The game finished 0 - 0 and even though a better all round performance then previous weeks Hinckley will be disappointed to have only managed a draw in a game they had plenty of chances to win.
