Zemmama probe over

Wednesday Sep 06 2006 12:42

FIFA has ended its investigation into Merouane Zemmama's move from Raja Casablanca to Hibernian.

The midfielder's transfer was called into question after the Moroccan Football Federation asked FIFA to intervene following allegations that falsified documentation was used to gain international clearance.

However, a spokesman for the global game's governing body told the Edinburgh Evening News: "The case whereby there was an allegation of a false document used has been closed, because the potential for falsification of documents is a criminal offence and FIFA is not competent to deal with criminal offences."

The original complaint came from Raja Casablanca officials, who believe that Zemmama is contracted to them until 2009, despite him moving to Hibernian as a free agent.

The Moroccan Football Federation have suspended the 23-year-old while they conduct their own investigation into the matter, but they are powerless to prevent him continuing to play in Scotland.
