Wotherspoon backs axed Hughes

Hibernian youngster David Wotherspoon has spoke of his disappointment after manager John Hughes was axed by the Easter Road board.

The 20-year-old has thanked his former mentor for turning his form around in Edinburgh and he has no doubt that Hughes will succeed elsewhere as a coach, despite falling out of favour after a number of poor Scottish Premier League results this term.

"John will definitely bounce back. He was a great manager for me and he basically kick-started my career," he said.

"I thought he was brilliant to train under and to be managed by. I think it's a real shame he's gone.

"He put me into the Hibs team. He would drop me for some games if I deserved it, and he would keep me in for other games when I deserved to stay in. He'll coach you in any way he can.

"If you go to him with questions, he'll give you answers. He's good at that during training, he'll clear up any queries or misunderstandings for you."
