Wotherspoon looking for big finish

David Wotherspoon hopes he can cap his dream debut season by helping ensure Hibernian overcome their sticky spell to qualify for Europe.[LNB] The 20-year-old has enjoyed a terrific breakthrough season at Easter Road since graduating from the club's double-winning under-19 side last year.[LNB]Played mainly at right-back but pushed further forward in recent weeks, Wotherspoon admits he has savoured every minute this term and now has eyes set on Sunday's meeting with champions elect Rangers in Edinburgh.[LNB]Walter Smith's side can retain their Scottish Premier League title this weekend, but Hibs have an agenda of their own as they seek to regain their early-season form and hold onto fourth place and Europa League qualification.[LNB]John Hughes' team have won just twice in 14 matches and Wotherspoon does not want his efforts and those of his colleagues to go to waste.[LNB]The Perth-born player said: "It's been tremendous this season. I've been really delighted with the way I've got my games.[LNB]"To be honest, I was just looking at coming in and trying to get a bit of experience among the older boys, train with them day-in, day-out and then hopefully at this stage of the season get regular starts.[LNB]"I obviously wasn't expecting to be chucked straight in. I'm just over the moon at the moment, still living the dream of first-team football and I hope it continues.[LNB]"After the summer I've just got to come back, work hard in pre-season and try and build on this season.[LNB]"We are fighting to get the three points on Sunday. The main objective is to try and get the win, to get ourselves back on track. It would be a shame if everything was to slip after a good first half of the season."[LNB]Meanwhile, Hughes believes two victories from the last four games will secure fourth spot, but he wants to win them all to finish his debut season at the club on a high.[LNB]Hibs host Rangers before the final Edinburgh derby of the season against Hearts next Saturday, also on their home turf.[LNB]He said: "I think we need two wins. (To do it in the) next two weeks - they would be crackers, wouldn't they? Rangers and Hearts, that would be absolutely fantastic.[LNB]"But I want to win the four of them, we are all in there battling with each other.[LNB]"I'm desperate to get European football at Easter Road next year. If we can get back to winning ways on Sunday then I'll be over the moon.[LNB]"It's going to be very difficult, but I'm asking the boys to rise to that challenge and see if we can pick up the win."[LNB]Hughes admits he has had to work hard to lift his squad during their slump, but hopes the corner has finally been turned.[LNB]Seeking to end a run of four straight losses, he added: "We all get frustrated because we are not winning.[LNB]"There is exasperation there, but it's my job as manager to come in and make sure the boys enjoy their work.[LNB]"To do that, the training has to be lively and demanding, you train with intensity.[LNB]"Hopefully it will rub off on Sunday and we can get back to winning ways."
