Hibernian's David Wotherspoon has received an inspirational boost ahead of Scotland Under-21s' clash with Northern Ireland on Wednesday.[LNB] Wotherspoon is taking inspiration from his Scotland U21 team-mates who made their debuts for the senior team in Tuesday night's friendly win against the Faroe Islands at Pittodrie.[LNB]David Goodwillie, Danny Wilson and Barry Bannan were included in Craig Levein's original squad and a raft of call-offs saw Steven Saunders brought in late.[LNB]Bannan and Wilson were handed starting debuts with the latter opening the scoring in the 3-0 win while Goodwillie and Saunders came on as a second-half substitutes after goals from Kris Commons and Jamie Mackie had settled the game as a contest.[LNB]Wotherspoon, looking forward to the Scotland U21 friendly against Northern Ireland at Firhill on Wednesday night, is buoyed by the knowledge that the path to the full team appears to be open.[LNB]He said: "Inspire us? Yes, it definitely does.[LNB]"It gives us all a lot of confidence and encouragement to try and push for that next step.[LNB]"We are focused on our 21s careers just now while we still have a chance for that.[LNB]"All the boys want to be the best of their age and playing for your national team shows you are in that class[LNB]"But we will still be looking to try and break through in to the full team."[LNB]Wotherspoon is hoping to achieve qualification for the European Championship at the second time of asking.[LNB]Billy Stark's side failed to reach the 2011 finals in Denmark when they lost to Iceland in a two-legged play-off last month.[LNB]For many of the young Scots, that was their last chance to play in the finals and Hibs midfielder Wotherspoon said: "I have been with the Under-21s for over a year. I'm 20 and I could have another two years left with the way things work.[LNB]"It was a great experience for all of us going that far in the last campaign and it was very unlucky that we didn't get through.[LNB]"It's always good to play for your national team and I am looking forward to tonight."
