We deserved it - Hughes
Hibernian manager John Hughes felt his side were worthy winners in their 3-2 victory at Motherwell.
John Sutton gave Well an early lead but Anthony Stokes bundled home from close range in first-half stoppage-time before Paul Hanlon did the same despite suspicions of handball.
Liam Miller doubled the advantage for Hibs and unlike last season, when they lost a four-goal lead to draw 6-6, the visitors held on despite Jamie Murphy pulling one back from the spot.
Hughes said: "For the first 25 minutes Motherwell were the better team.
"I felt we were the better team in the second half. I've seen us play better football but it was a case of doing what we had to do to win the football match.
"I felt we were good for a further two or three goals, their keeper has made a few great saves."
