The SPL were this week finally given the green light to try to create a second division - two and a half years after first proposing it.[LNB]Secretary Iain Blair claims the split which is currently in use in the top flight has been popular with clubs and believes it adds to the excitement of the league campaign.[LNB]He told the Scottish News of the World: "The split would remain because a 12-team league wouldn't work in terms of fixture congestion.[LNB]"We've had a number of last-day finishes in recent seasons and one or two clubs have taken the general view that this is working quite well so be careful about tinkering with it.[LNB]"The split creates a double hit for the season - you have jockeying to make the top six and then you have a sprint for the title and European places."[LNB][LNB]
