SFA dismiss Hogg red card appeal

Hogg, 24, was sent off four minutes from time on Saturday by referee Stevie O'Reilly for a late tackle on Tannadice winger Craig Conway.[LNB]The Edinburgh club launched an appeal but O'Reilly confirmed his decision after reviewing the incident.[LNB]An SFA statement read: "Hibernian FC's claim of wrongful dismissal in respect of the sending-off of its player Chris Hogg in the match against Dundee United FC on 2nd May has been dismissed, following a review by referee Stevie O'Reilly.[LNB]"Having reviewed the circumstances of the player's sending-off, the referee indicated that he is content with his decision and, in accordance with the disciplinary procedures, the claim is dismissed automatically.[LNB]"Hogg will be suspended for the Edinburgh derby match and, as a result of his breaching the 18 disciplinary point threshold, has also incurred a one-match fixed suspension with effect from 16th May."[LNB]In explanation of the referee's decision, the following definition of serious foul play as detailed in the FIFA laws of the game is provided:[LNB]"Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play."[LNB][LNB]
