Riordan facing fitness race

Returning Hibernian striker Derek Riordan is facing a race against time to be fit for the weekend clash with Dundee United.

The 25-year-old, who moved back to Easter Road from Celtic on transfer deadline day, is struggling to shake off a groin problem in time to face the Terrors.

Boss Mixu Paatelainen told the Edinburgh Evening News: "Derek has got a little niggle with his groin which we need to work on this week.

"He had it when he arrived at the club and we don't think that it is too serious, but obviously we don't want to risk making it worse by playing him too soon.

"We have got to remember that he has not played too much football over the last couple of years really, so we know that we will have to work on his match fitness."
