Riordan delighted with timely strike

Riordan and Gallacher had both been in the Scotland squad for the 3-0 defeat by Wales in Cardiff last week and the former Celtic player learned before the game that the Buddies number one had not been too impressed with his performances in training.[LNB]However, there was no mistaking the quality in Riordan's strike after 29 minutes although Paisley defender Chris Innes won a share of the Scottish Premier League points with a headed equaliser just before the break.[LNB]Riordan grinned: "Liam Miller played it out to me and I took a touch and I hit it.[LNB]"My strength is shooting so luckily enough for me it went in.[LNB]"I'm glad it happened to Gal (Gallacher) anyway. Chipper (Hibs' assistant manager Brian Rice) said to me before the match that Gallacher had said I couldn't hit the target down in Wales so I made up for it today.[LNB]"I thought I was all right down there, I think Gal was just giving me a bit of stick."[LNB]Poor performance in training was the theme of the post-match press conference.[LNB]Innes, nicknamed Johnny Bravo, revealed his first goal for St Mirren since signing in the summer came after he had to buy cakes for his Buddies team mates due to his woeful shooting in training.[LNB]"I bought the cakes at training the last couple of weeks because my shooting was terrible," the former Livingston defender said.[LNB]"We do this thing in training where the worst finisher buys the cakes.[LNB]"I can't believe they include defenders in that but I managed to peak at the right time today."[LNB]The second half was a disappointment in comparison to a lively first 45 minutes in which the home side were denied several more goals due to poor finishing and good goalkeeping by Easter Road keeper Graham Stack.[LNB]St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson was in no doubt as to what the outcome should have been.[LNB]He said: "I see it as two points dropped, quite clearly.[LNB]"It wasn't just half chances we had, it was good, good chances and we should have won the game.[LNB]"Derek Riordan popped up with something that we knew he was capable of doing but it would have been a complete injustice if we had gone in at the interval a goal down.[LNB]"So it is frustrating when you see so many chances missed."[LNB]Hibernian continue their decade-long search for a win in Paisley but have now gone eight games without a defeat.[LNB]Manager John Hughes believes his side were hard done to in the second minute of added time in the first half when the concession of a free-kick led to Innes's header.[LNB]He said: "I was disappointed with the goal we lost.[LNB]"I thought it was a cheap foul given by the linesman, I didn't see much in it."[LNB]As for the result, Hughes said: "It keeps the run going and there were times earlier on in the season when we would have lost.[LNB]"But I sense a spirit and desire among the players now."[LNB][LNB]
