Reid rages after Accies draw

Hamilton boss Billy Reid was left raging after Accies surrendered a two-goal lead against St Mirren in their Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash at New St Mirren Park.

Reid's side had lost the lead in their previous two games against Celtic and Kilmarnock but when they forged ahead against bottom side Saints with goals from Jon Routledge and Dougie Imrie all three points looked destined for Lanarkshire. However, Buddies' striker Michael Higdon reduced the deficit on the hour mark before slamming in an equaliser to complete an unlikely comeback.

"Even in the first half I don't think we defended balls into the box anywhere near as well as we should have done and I was never comfortable," Reid said.

"In terms of quality of play, I don't think there was any comparison.

"We cut them up so many times and at 2-0 up we should have won the game but we didn't.

"The game was finished but we gave them encouragement and they came back. It's a problem for me.

Saints boss Danny Lennon, whose side have not won in five games and remain bottom of the table, was also critical of his defence.

"For their first goal, it was very basic," he said.

"Jure Travner he didn't get tight enough to their player although it was a good finish by Routledge. The second goal was another sucker punch, a schoolboy error from our point of view.

"We had nothing to lose so I threw on a kid, Kenny McLean, and he gave us a better balance and width and I thought he had a fantastic performance in the half hour or so he was on."
