Rae heaps praise on Magennis
Aberdeen midfielder Gavin Rae praised Josh Magennis for his part in the victory as the Dons grabbed their first home league win of the season.
The Northern Irishman came off the bench to help set-up Rae's 70th-minute winner as the Dons ran out 2-1 winners against a below-par Hibernian.
Niall McGinn had opened the scoring for Aberdeen after only four minutes before Eoin Doyle netted a spectacular equaliser.
Magennis, who has been converted to a right-back this season, was brought on as a striker as the Dons tried to end a run of four successive draws at Pittodrie.
"Josh's versatility is a good thing to have in the modern game. I actually knew Josh when he was still a goalkeeper at Cardiff before he was put up front," Rae said.
"The manager has changed him to a right-back this season but he can still come on up front for us if we need him.
"He works so hard and it is great to see him getting the rewards. He has the pace to get by people so when I saw him with the ball on the wing I took a chance and thankfully it paid off."
Rae, who also scored in last weekend's 3-3 draw with Motherwell, said he was delighted to help the Dons end their winless run in front of their own support.
He added: "We try to rotate positions and I said to Stephen Hughes that I would push on a bit and got him to sit in and I was chuffed to score the winning goal.
"We did well to come back from being two goals behind last weekend to get a point but we were desperate to get that home win and we are all delighted."
Hibernian could have gone top of the SPL had they won the lunchtime kick-off and boss Pat Fenlon said his players must show more confidence in themselves if they are to achieve a successful season.
"I have said to the boys that they have to have more belief in themselves. They are all good players and a good team as they have shown over the last five or six weeks," he said.
"They just need to believe in themselves a little bit more. That's probably more frustrating than anything else.
"I can't criticise their workrate and honesty. They have developed a great team spirit."
Despite seeing a six-game unbeaten run come to an end, Fenlon is pleased with how his squad have started the new campaign.
He added: "I think there are only four players left at the club since I came in so it has been a massive changeover.
"We brought certain types of players in and we are happy with the group that we have as they work really hard."
