Former Hibernian left-back David Murphy has explained the reasons for his exit from Easter Road, as he heads to England to join Birmingham City.

The 23-year-old former Middlesbrough youngster returns to England after more than three years with Hibs and is relishing the chance to make his way in the Premier League.

He told The Scotsman: "I just couldn't turn down the chance to play in the Premier League and Birmingham are a terrific club.

"I had a taste of the Premier League earlier in my career and I'm delighted to get the chance to go back.

"The Hibs fans have been terrific because they knew my situation and that means an awful lot.

"It was very important to me that I left Easter Road on the right terms and I'm happy to have managed that."
