Mowbs puts Jones on Albion's radar

Mowbray knows all about the qualities of 29-year-old Jones after signing him from Grimsby three years ago in a £150,000 deal when in charge at Easter Road. Baggies assistant manager Mark Venus ran the rule over Jones during Hibs' recent 1-1 draw with Rangers, now Mowbray is considering whether to firm up his interest in the 6ft 7ins player. Jones previously played non-league football for Macclesfield, Gateshead and Stockport before joining the professional ranks at the age of 23. Nottingham Forest and Colchester were interested in signing Jones, who is believed to be keen to return south of the border, during the January transfer window. Mowbray is well aware of the need for the Baggies to tighten up at the back as elementary mistakes have been a key factor in them being relegated from the Premier League. And Jonas Olsson, one of the few centre-backs to emerge with much credit, is being tracked by the likes of Aston Villa and Everton. Mowbray has already returned once to his former club to sign another centre-back in Shelton Martis, who broke into the first-team squad towards the end of the campaign. He is still adjusting to playing regular first-team football although Albion are to take up the one-year option on his contract. Blackburn v West Brom To Score 2+ Goals: West Brom 21/10
