Hibernian manager Mixu Paatelainen admitted his side rode their luck on their way to a 1-0 victory over Motherwell on Wednesday night.
The Edinburgh club kept alive their European aspirations after an entertaining clash with fourth-placed Well was settled by Colin Nish's 52nd minute winner.
Hibs moved to within two points of their fellow challengers for a UEFA Cup place.
"Motherwell are above us and it's a great scalp," said Paatelainen.
"They are a very good football side with plenty of movement. Our defenders did really well against three strikers.
"I'm sure they are unhappy, they created a couple of chances and we had a little bit of luck, but we could have scored one or two goals more."
