Miller to miss France games
12 Nov 2009 - 13:02:24
Hibernian midfielder Liam Miller has been forced to drop out of the Republic of Ireland squad for the World Cup play-off matches against France through injury.
The 28-year-old is struggling with a calf problem that almost forced him to miss the recent derby at Tynecastle.
Hibs boss John Hughes said: "Liam and Kevin McBride were both struggling for the derby, it was touch and go in each case and we took something of a gamble.
"Liam only trained on the Friday but felt good enough to try it and I was delighted both of them got through the game.
"I'm disappointed for Liam because he'd really just got back into the international scene and like any player was desperate to be involved in these matches against the French.
"You don't get games much bigger than these two. But it shows his spirit, commitment and attitude that he also wanted to play in what was a big game for Hibs."
