Miller desperate to kickstart career

Former Celtic and Manchester United midfielder Miller agreed a two-year deal at Easter Road last week following a close season spent training on his own with a fitness coach whilst searching for a new club. The 28-year-old was a free agent after a short-term move to QPR in January failed to pay off and cast doubt over the direction of his career. Miller appeared to have a bright future ahead of him in 2004 when he was rewarded with a pre-contract by Manchester United after some impressive showings with Celtic. However, whilst his subsequent move to Sunderland finally brought the regular first-team football he craved, a disagreement with manager Roy Keane saw him fall out of favour and hastened his departure from the Stadium of Light back in January. Now, the Republic of Ireland international is "hungry" to get his career back on track in the Scottish Premier League. He said: "Hibs are a big football club. It's good to be back up in Scotland, to be honest, and I'm really looking forward to playing for Hibs; it's a really good football club. "I'm very hungry to get back playing the game. It's been a really hard summer for myself; I was on my own doing pre-season. "I had a fitness coach as well but it's not the same thing until you get out the balls and you're training with your team-mates and everything else. It's been mentally very hard for me this summer and I just can't wait to get back to playing football, to be honest. "I just want to try to nail a place in the team as quickly as I can and do as well as I can. I want to try to push Hibs as high up the league as I can and hopefully score a few goals at the same time." Despite being without a club before sealing his move to Easter Road last week, Miller has still been involved with his country for the recent friendlies with Australia and South Africa, and this month's World Cup qualifier against Cyprus. However, he had not played competitively since April before his second-half substitute's appearance in Hibs' 2-0 defeat to Hamilton last weekend. And the midfielder insists John Hughes' outfit are now desperate to bounce back from that loss against St Johnstone. He added: "Training-wise and everything, it's been great; everyone's looking bright in training. "Obviously, the result at the weekend was disappointing but hopefully we'll put that right on Saturday against St Johnstone. "It's a young squad here but, judging by the last few days in training, there's definitely a lot of quality here. That is a really good thing for the manager to have."
