McInnes disappointed by Hughes sacking

St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes did not expect their win over Hibernian to spell the end of John Hughes' tenure as manager.[LNB] But the Saints boss admits the nature of football nowadays means you can never truly be surprised by managerial casualties even though he firmly believes Hughes would have transformed the fortunes of Hibs if given more time.[LNB]Hughes parted company with the Edinburgh club in the wake of their 2-0 defeat at McDiarmid Park after finding himself under increasing pressure.[LNB]"I don't think you are ever totally surprised by anything that happens in football now," said McInnes.[LNB]"Personally, I think Yogi is a very good guy and he is one of the guys you want to see doing well.[LNB]"I think he did do well at Hibs and you are just expecting him to get a bit more time to turn things around because it was just a matter of time before Hibs started getting the right results.[LNB]"I've no doubts about that, with the players they've got and the manager they had. I'm disappointed for him but I've no doubts he will be a success elsewhere."[LNB]The win over Hibs came after a period where Saints felt their performances were not being rewarded with the points they deserved, suggesting the international break may have come at the wrong time for the Perth club.[LNB]McInnes said: "When you win games, you want the next one to come along. But, at the same time, when you lose a game, you just want to play the next one as well.[LNB]"We know the international fixtures are there and it's just something we have to get used to.[LNB]"Ideally, you would be playing Saturday to Saturday regardless of the result previously.[LNB]"We just hope to try and get a consistency of results now. Any team who does that can quickly find themselves up towards the top end of the table. That's what we are trying to do.[LNB]"There is not a lot between the teams at the minute and we are just trying to get a consistency of results."[LNB]He added: "It seems like a long time ago since we played Hibs. It was very important that day that we finished with a positive result because it would be a fortnight until our next game.[LNB]"Thankfully, we got a performance and a result. I feel as though, for the majority of the season, we have had decent enough performances without always getting the right result."[LNB]Next up is a trip to the Highlands to take on newly-promoted Inverness, who have enjoyed a successful return to the Scottish Premier League so far.[LNB]McInnes said: "They are a good side, they are very hard working.[LNB]"They've got that enthusiasm about them, as you would expect, and they've got experienced players who have played in the league before and they have players who can score goals.[LNB]"They are definitely a capable team and a team with a bit of confidence. We are expecting a tough match but if we play the way we can, we expect them to get a tough match also."
