Jefferies delighted with derby win

Manager Jim Jefferies was overjoyed as his Hearts side came out on top following a feisty Edinburgh derby at Easter Road on Sunday.[LNB] David Templeton and Stephen Elliott, with his first Hearts goal, were on target in the 2-0 win over Hibernian, who finished with 10 men as captain Derek Riordan was dismissed for a crude challenge on Rudi Skacel two minutes from time.[LNB]But that was not the only incident as missiles were thrown on to the pitch by both sets of supporters in incidents which are likely to be brought to the Scottish Football Association's attention.[LNB]Jefferies was pleased with the response from the limp display in the 3-0 loss to Kilmarnock as Hearts climbed to fourth in the SPL.[LNB]The win was set up by Templeton's 19th-minute opener.[LNB]The 21-year-old winger held off the challenge of four would-be tacklers as he cut in off the left flank before tucking in.[LNB]"It was a terrific goal," said Jefferies.[LNB]"He's got great feet, a wee change of pace, great skill and he can finish - the goal was every one of those things."[LNB]While Templeton and Elliott, who netted after 67 minutes, were the match-winners, Jefferies reserved special praise for Skacel and Kevin Kyle.[LNB]"Kevin Kyle had his best game, I think, since coming back to Scotland," said Jefferies, of the striker he signed for Kilmarnock from Coventry before taking him to Tynecastle.[LNB]"He wasn't going to be in the team. He knew I wasn't very happy with the last couple of weeks.[LNB]"I said to him 'don't let me down'. He certainly didn't do that today."[LNB]Templeton was thrilled with his goal, which saw him pick up the ball in the left channel, shrug off the challenge of Danny Galbraith, Michael Hart, Liam Miller and Sol Bamba as he cut in on a diagonal run before slotting in a cool finish.[LNB]"Last year was my best feeling when I set up the winner, but that was 10 times better," said Templeton.[LNB]"I turned and when I was running everything seemed to open up for me.[LNB]"Stephen Elliott made a great run to take one of the centre halves away and open it up at the 18 yard box and I managed to slot it away."[LNB]Hibs now have a record of two wins from 14 games this season, with Colin Calderwood defeated in all three of his games in charge since succeeding John Hughes.[LNB]His first match as boss at Easter Road ended in a painful defeat and Calderwood was unhappy with his side's defending and Riordan's dismissal.[LNB]Hibs will be without Riordan for Wednesday's trip to Rangers, with Calderwood saying the subject of whether the striker would retain the captaincy would be discussed later in the week.[LNB]"The first goal was a terrific run, but we've got to deal with the dribble better than we did," said Calderwood.[LNB]"We lost a goal from a free-kick, it's soft - a simple ball, a nod down and simple reactions. Better defending clears it."[LNB]On the dismissal, Calderwood added: "It's important that the emotion doesn't overtake the situation and you've got to remain with 11.[LNB]"We didn't. So close to the end of the game it's pointless."[LNB]Referee Willie Collum was in charge of a second high-profile derby in a matter of weeks, but avoided controversy after being criticised for his officiating in last month's Old Firm derby by Celtic manager Neil Lennon.[LNB]Jefferies, who was sent to the stand by Collum when Hearts met Celtic earlier this season, was happy with the official.[LNB]"He had an outstanding game today," said the Hearts boss.[LNB]"He controlled it well and never let it get out of hand."[LNB]However, there were incidents which are likely to receive the SFA's attention.[LNB]Templeton's goal was greeted with Hearts fans throwing two flares on to the pitch, with proceedings delayed for around two minutes before the flares were put out by stewards.[LNB]Coins and lighters were hurled at Hearts players as frustration built up among Hibs fans in the second half, epitomised on the field when Riordan was shown a straight red card for a terrible challenge which pole-axed Skacel two minutes from time.[LNB]"The derby's a great occasion and it shouldn't be spoiled by idiots throwing things," said Jefferies.
