Hughes rues Bamba departure

Hibernian manager John Hughes has admitted that he will be sad to lose central defender Souleymane Bamba for a month to the African Cup of Nations finals.

The 24-year-old Ivory Coast stopper has impressed in the opening weeks of the new season, but will be away in January for the international action in Angola.

Hughes told the Edinburgh Evening News: "It is a source of frustration for us obviously, because I think that Sol Bamba has probably been our best player since we started back.

"I would never deny anyone an opportunity to play for their country, but it is a massive blow to be losing him.

"We will definitely miss him but we always knew that could be the case and we know that he loves representing his country.

"He goes with our best wishes, but the main thing for us is that he comes back fit and ready to go."
