Hughes rues Hibs' missed chances

Anthony Stokes put the hosts in the driving seat in Saturday's SPL clash with a third-minute penalty after Colin Nish was felled by goalkeeper Graeme Smith, and Hibs had chances to extend their lead in an improved second-half performance.[LNB]Derek Riordan was denied by Smith and also had an effort cleared off the line as Saints rode their luck.[LNB]With five minutes left, Liam Craig ensured the visitors earned a share of the spoils when he converted a penalty after Liam Miller was adjudged to have handled the ball by referee Alan Muir.[LNB]Hughes, whose side have fallen to fourth in the SPL behind Dundee United, said: "During the game, I felt we had the better of the chances, we looked dangerous on the counter attack and had bits and pieces.[LNB]"(Colin) Nishy passed up one and Derek also passed one up. It's a bit disappointing that they didn't see the game out but good on them for what they gave me.[LNB]"We tried to play it right on a sticky surface.[LNB]"I felt on the counter attack we could have put the game beyond reach, if you don't do that, it can come back to get you and it did."[LNB]Muir pointed to the spot after Murray Davidson's flick struck Republic of Ireland international Miller's hand in a congested box late on and Hughes reckons it was a harsh decision.[LNB]He added: "It's a soft one; if the hands are above the waist, I think that's the way they do it.[LNB]"I think it's very soft but these things happen, it evens itself out at the end of the season so we have to get on with it."[LNB]Hibs looked dangerous in the final third, especially on the counter-attack, but Saints acquitted themselves well on the ball.[LNB]Manager Derek McInnes, whose side inflicted a 5-1 hammering on Hibs just over a week ago in a rearranged league match, felt his side were well worth their point.[LNB]He said: "I think it is a good point, coming to Easter Road against Hibs, they are a strong side and going along very well; okay they have stuttered in recent weeks.[LNB]"I think we were unfortunate not to get something earlier. The one we did get, I thought it was a penalty and Liam Craig did well to score.[LNB]"I thought we looked the team, after we had equalised, that could go on and win it and I don't think it would have been a huge surprise if we had gone on and won it."[LNB][LNB]
