Hughes reconsidering Hibs' style

Hibernian boss John Hughes admitted after the 1-0 defeat at St Mirren that he may have to reconsider his team's crowd-pleasing style of play.[LNB] The Paisley side won on Sunday thanks to Craig Dargo's second-half goal, giving manager Danny Lennon his first victory and moving the Buddies off the bottom of the SPL table.[LNB]Hibs have lost two of their three matches so far this season, leaving Hughes to suggest that expectations at Easter Road may be too great after last term's fourth-place finish .[LNB]The manager said: "I always like to play a style of football that's expansive and is good to watch, but maybe I have to have a right good look at it and maybe I have to start picking a team to be resolute and hard to beat.[LNB]"That's my message to the supporters - maybe we're not as good as we all think we are and I have to look at it so that we're keeping clean sheets and are hard to beat.[LNB]"I still think that last year we punched well above our weight; the boys were fantastic and that set up expectations - I don't want to dampen that and we want to win football matches, but we have a bit of transition going on at the club and have a lot of hard work in front of us."[LNB]Darren McGregor claims St Mirren's leap up the SPL table was a reward for getting their tactics correct.[LNB]Midfielder McGregor played the ball on from a free kick for Dargo to score - and believes he and his fellow signings from Cowdenbeath are proving they have the necessary footballing credentials to play in the top flight.[LNB]He said: "It's a morale boost to have three points on the board, especially after all the teams who were struggling around us got victories on Saturday and the table didn't sit kindly for us.[LNB]"This win was the difference between 12th and fifth place, so hopefully we should kick on from here and be in with a good chance of beating the teams around us.[LNB]"It was a really tough game - the manager said before we went out that Hibs are known for being a passing side and that if we gave them time on the ball they'd break us down.[LNB]"Our strategy was to keep it tight at the back, press them high, smother them and try not to let them get too much time on the ball to hurt us, and I think we contained them pretty well, caught them on the counter a few times and then managed to get the free kick which eventually gave us the lead."[LNB]McGregor added of his arrival at St Mirren from Second Division football last season: "There were a lot of negative comments that the manager had brought in four guys from lower leagues, asking whether we'd have the ability to cut it at this level.[LNB]"We're being told by the gaffer and senior pros that we're good enough and we also believe that we can cut it at this level, so it's just a matter of going out every week and showing the fans and players that we do belong in the SPL and are capable of playing to this standard."
