Scottish Premier League outfit Hibernian have announced manager John Hughes has left the club by mutual consent.[LNB] The Edinburgh club have not won since the opening day of the season and the 2-0 weekend defeat to St Johnstone proved the final straw.[LNB]Chairman Rod Petrie said: "John has been a hard-working and dedicated manager of Hibernian. As a former captain, and as a fan, he recognises that a fresh face and a new approach is the best option for the club at this time.[LNB]"We thank him for all of his hard work, and for his honesty and passion for the club."[LNB]Hughes said: "I have relished every minute of my time at Hibernian, the club I have always supported and which will always have a special place in my heart. I am proud of what we achieved last season, and I wish the board, players and supporters every success."[LNB]With only one win in 10 competitive matches this season, Hughes had found himself under pressure despite being at an early stage of the campaign.[LNB]Patience with fans was also wearing thin, with a section of the support calling for his head following their Co-operative Insurance Cup exit at Kilmarnock.[LNB]But, despite the latest defeat at the weekend, Hughes denied his position was under threat and spoke of his desire to improve their position in the SPL.[LNB]Speaking on Saturday, he said: "Honestly, I'm not [under pressure].[LNB]"I'm really close with the chairman and the chairman knows exactly what's going on at this club and what needs done. He knows the work we put in."[LNB]Hughes left Falkirk after six years to take over as Hibs boss in June 2009 following the departure of Mixu Paatelainen.[LNB]He played for the Edinburgh club between 1996 and 2000 after joining from Celtic.[LNB]The 46-year-old guided Hibs to a fourth-placed finish and a Europa League spot in his first season at the helm.
