Hughes: Don't judge us yet

Manager John Hughes has called for patience from Hibernian fans seeking his removal.

Supporters voiced their discontent following 1-1 home draws with Inverness and Hamilton - the latter extending Hibs' winless home run to nine games - and after Wednesday night's 3-1 Co-operative Insurance Cup loss at Kilmarnock. In all three games Hibs took the lead and Hughes is adamant both he and the players are capable of turning the club's fortunes around, with a bit of good fortune.

Ahead of Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League trip to Celtic, Hughes said: "I don't read newspapers, I just get on with it. My concern is getting these boys up, getting them spirited, getting a real will to win at this club."

He added: "What they're giving me right at this moment in time, we're just about there.

"We're not carrying any luck - lady luck has left us - but that's football.

"We're in the month of September - judge us at the end of the year where we are.

"We've played six games, we've won one, drawn two and lost three - one of which was against the Scottish champions and for an hour the game could have gone either way.

"I look at it more in a view where it's not all doom and gloom."

Hughes received support from Hearts manager Jim Jefferies, who was his boss at Falkirk in the 1990s.

Jefferies said: "Sheer determination is his biggest strength and when it comes to a test of character there is nobody with any more than Yogi (Hughes). They've just got to make sure they stick with him."
