Hibs secure awards double

Hibernian duo John Hughes and Derek Riordan have been named as the SPL Manager and Player of the Month for September respectively.

Hibs won two of their three league games last month, with Riordan finding the net twice and earning a recall to the Scotland squad for the upcoming friendly in Japan.

Hughes told The Scotsman: "Derek has been different class, he deserves it. First and foremost he has worked very hard on his fitness and that has been evident.

"Since the start of the season he has been playing with confidence.

"In terms of his technical ability he is always capable of getting a goal, but we've been seeing a Derek Riordan willing to work hard, get back and double up on opposition players."
