Hibs boss demands improvement

Hibs have lost only one of their last 14 games in all competitions but have been unconvincing of late. They were thrashed 4-1 by Rangers and were held to a 1-1 draw in the Edinburgh derby before surviving more than one scare against Irvine Meadow in the Scottish Cup on Saturday. Hughes, who takes third-placed Hibs to Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League this weekend, told Hibernian TV: "We are winning games, but what I will say is that what we saw on Saturday and the last few weeks, sometimes as a manager you just have to stand back and take it, but it is not acceptable. "You can't do this job overnight, and everybody has to take responsibility. "I take responsibility for it, I'm not happy with it and I like to think that one or two players can take responsibility as well, that they can look themselves in the mirror and say that it is not acceptable. "If they don't - well I know where I'm going and where this club is going, and if they want to be part of that then they need to make sure that every day they come into training they are giving everything they have got. "I just don't see why it should not be like that." Hughes, who took charge of his boyhood idols last summer, added: "Our supporters are only watching what I'm seeing, we need to have the application and desire in every game to go and make things work. "At the start on Saturday, I felt we were only in second gear - which is very disappointing and I told the players I would not put up with that, you keep getting another chance to rectify it but eventually your chances will run out. "Where I want to take Hibernian is miles away from what we were on Saturday." Dundee Utd 11/8, Hibernian 15/8, Draw 12/5
