Hibs sack stadium announcer over taxman song

Over reaction to banter over Hearts plight

Hibs have sacked their stadium announcer, after he played Beatles hit "taxman" at Easter Road on Sunday, in slight dig at Hearts over their current financial problems.

The song was played at half-time during the Hibees 2-1 win over Dundee United, but was cut-short seemingly by the hierarchy at the club.

Apparently the announcer, named as Willie Docherty on Twitter, was charged with gross misconduct.

A total over reaction if ever there was one.

A Hibs spokesman said:

"The stadium announcer's contract has been terminated following a breach of conduct."

The worst point about the whole thing is that a "Hearts Season ticket holder" and Hearts supporters' spokesman Derek Watson, both ran to the papers to complain, and the man lost his job, leading upto the most expensive time of the year.

They both cited the "support" Hearts fans gave Hands Off Hibs in the late 80's when Hibs faced financial meltdown.

An absolute myth if ever there was one, yes a handfull of Hearts fans turned up to the HOH rally at Easter Road, which was appreciated at the time, and I'm sure there is Hibs fans who don't want to see Hearts hit the wall, but most Hibs supporters will tell you, the Hearts fans were loving the fact their great rivals were in financial meltdown at the time.

Many a Hibs fan turned upto work to be baited and told their club was going out of business by many a gloating Jambo.

What's the problem now?? Is it because the shoe is on the other foot??

Can the poor souls not handle a wee bit "banter" from us "wee team" fans??

Have we not been told lately that Rudi Skacel's shirt number on his Dundee Utd top was only "banter"?

What about when the poster of Skacel scoring in the Scottish Cup Final went up outside Easter Road, we were told the Hibs support was over reacting to the situation, again a mistake made by the people who put the poster up, but we were to treat it as a bit of fun, a bit of "banter".

The poster was defaced by a few Hibs fans, yet Hearts fans then defaced our stadium in retaliation, yet THAT is brushed under the carpet, another bit of "banter"??

If someone can tell us the difference in banter between a player wearing a controversial number on his back, and a DJ playing a song, could they please let us know at Hibs-Mad??

Hibs-Mad would like to take this oppertunity to call on Hibs to see sense and give the man his job back.
