Hibs plan Adams appeal

Hibernian plan to appeal against assistant boss Derek Adams' six-match touchline ban, manager Colin Calderwood has said.

Adams was handed the suspension on Tuesday for being sent to the stand against Motherwell in January and Hibs have seven days from the penalty being imposed to lodge the appeal in writing to the Scottish Football Association.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Hamilton, Calderwood said: "We are going to appeal. We'll obviously take all of the reasons for that appeal to the committee. We hope we'll be successful."

Adams was serving a six-match suspension when he joined Hibs in November, a punishment the former Ross County boss received for clashing with an official on the final game of an eight-match ban.

His latest suspension comes after he was reported for foul and abusive language towards referee Alan Muir during a 2-0 defeat at Fir Park on January 22, although Calderwood later claimed his assistant did not swear and had aimed his comments at a Motherwell player.

The incident was the fourth time the former Aberdeen midfielder had been reported by match officials over a three-year period, meaning his situation was automatically discussed by the SFA's disciplinary committee.

Adams accepted his previous six-match ban following an incident at Ross County's Co-operative Insurance Cup defeat by Dundee United in September.

However, he appealed against an additional four-match punishment for breaching the terms of his initial suspension by being in the tunnel. That appeal remains ongoing.
