Hibs learned from losing run - Calderwood

Hibernian manager Colin Calderwood believes the lessons learned during the club's barren winless run have helped them turn the corner in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. The Easter Road outfit have won back-to-back games against St Mirren and Kilmarnock to ease their relegation worries. Hibs now hold an eight-point advantage over bottom-placed Hamilton and can move six points clear of the 11th-placed Buddies with a win in Paisley on Sunday. Calderwood is refusing to get carried away at the club's mini-resurgence and, after making six January signings, insists his work remains a work-in-progress. But the former Scotland defender feels his squad have become stronger for the problems they endured during a 12-game period without a victory. Seeking Hibs' first triumph at St Mirren for 12 years this weekend, he said: "All through the defeats I knew it was a good learning curve for a lot of the players, dealing with things they had maybe not dealt with before. "I think our mistakes were so basic and finding ourselves behind in games. It was easy to find the reasons why we were losing. The basics don't change really and we've had an element of luck in the last couple of games. We've been a little bit better and a little bit more fortunate. "A win would take us away from St Mirren, definitely. If you can affect the people round about you by a direct result, it makes it a big game for us both. But because we played them two games ago, it could even itself out if they manage to get the victory."
