Big defender injury worse than feared

Hibs have been dealt some bad news that bid defender Michael Nelson faces weeks on the sidelines.

Nelson, 33, suffered a face injury against Celtic, who ironically claimed Hibs had been ehavy handed in the game with their tackles, which was first feared a broken eye socket.

Now, after initial tests had revealed nothing due to the extent of the swelling on the players face, it has been revealed that Nelson fractured his cheekbone in three places.

The former Bradford and Killie defender requiring an operation, that included two metal plates being fitted in his face.

Nelson revealed the extent of his injury on twitter, he said:

“Well, that black eye turned into three fractures, an operation and two metal plates inserted in my cheekbone.

“Out for a while unfortunately. Not sure yet [how long] just have to see how I feel.”

The player did reveal however, that he was hoping to come back quicker than expected, with the help of a face mask.

He added:

“I am not sure how long at the minute, but hope to get back wearing a face mask. But it will still be a few weeks.”
